I am done guiding for this year but there is still fishing through out the state. Maine’s IF&W stocks different bodies of water for a year round fishery. If you go to last years stocking reports, you will see when they stocked different bodies of water: http://www.state.me.us/ifw/fishing/fishstockingreports/index.htm and for the laws : http://www.state.me.us/ifw/fishing/regulations/openwater.htm Some rivers to look up are: St. George, Presumptscot, Ogunquit - tidewater, Salmon Falls - tidewater, Mousam - tidewater, Lamprey Isinglass, Berry Brook - tidewater For more reports go to:http://www.maineflyfish.com/forum/forum.asp?FORUM_ID=4 have fun and stay warm, Kevin McKay

Fishing Report 12/12/05 - Santee December 2005
The largemouth bass have been hitting very well the past couple of trips. We had 13 on 1 trip and 9 on the next. The fish have been coming from 10-15′ of water around drop offs and creek channels. Most of the fish have come on crankbaits but we have also picked up some on carolina rigs. Over the next few weeks the fish should move closer to the heavy cover and hold very tight to it. December usually yeilds some really good fish. We had 1 around 9 lbs. on the 1st. day of the month. On the suuny days the fish will be setting right in top of the brush and will be hunkered down in it on the cloudy ones. Slow methodical probing will produce some good big fish action. The crappie fishing has been good on the days the wind hasn’t blown. On a recent trip we had a 3.25 lbs. with a couple more over 2 lbs. The fish have been coming from brush in 25′ of water. Most of the fish have come on minnows but we have also been taking some on jigs. As the water cools more the jig will most likely produce more fish. A very slow presentation will be best. The bream fishing has been excellent. We have limited out almost every trip. We are catching the Bluegills around brush in 15-25′ water on crickets. The Shell crackers have been on deep ledges and fish over 3 lbs. are being caught, using worms on a drop shot rig. The stripers are starting to school some late in the day but they are not feeding heavyly. With a few more days of cold weather they should become more active. Last year my best trips were from the middle of December until the first of Feburary. The catfishing in the upper lakes has been pretty slow but I hear they are picking up somewhat. The Lower lake has been on fire with lots of really big fish biting.<br><br><img src=’http://www.fishingguidenetwork.com/reports/photos/133/102/000_0081A.JPG’>

This is turning out to be one of the best runs in recent memory with lots of 10+ pound Walleyes being halled in.

Fishing Report 11/08/05 - Indian River Lagoon Fishing Report
Fishing conditions on the IRL coast have shown significant improvement since the passing of Hurricane Wilma, with the bite improving as well. Water levels are still high and higher levels of tannic stained runoff (brown water) are still present, but in most areas of the lagoon, the water clarity is improving nicely. This past week a high-pressure system dominated our weather bringing magnificently sunny days, gentle northeast breezes, and mild temperatures, but the high pressure and turbid water made catching tough early in the week. As the week progressed, the bite improved. On Friday, I fish with a group of 40 guides supporting the Ring Power convention organized by Captain Tom Carver. The event was set up as a mini slot redfish tournament, and out of all those boats, Captain Mark Wright took top hook with five slot redfish. Our only slot fish was caught by working a green weed less Ribbit Frog made by Stanley Jigs early in the day on the edge of the mangroves. On Saturday, I fished a two-boat charter with Captain Kevin Mulligan. My anglers were John Kroger and his fishing buddy Mike from Denver. We started the day fly-fishing at the south power plant in Port Saint John, and we worked over the ladyfish for a good hour before John and Mike had enough. While on the subject of the power plants, they are currently loaded with ladyfish and jacks, but the manatee restrictions go in effect on November 15th, so if you enjoy the continues action of fishing the outflows, you only have a few days left. After we departed the power plant, we headed to the east shore where we ended up catching eight slot redfish and several nice sea trout between us. Sight fishing was tough due to the water conditions, so we opted to soaking ladyfish chunks in areas of bait schools in about two feet of water. On Sunday, I fished a four hour charter with Steve Smith and his good friend Jim, and we started the morning working jigs with RipTide 4 Swimming Mullet at the power plant, and they warmed up on the fast and furious action of the ladyfish. Once Jim and Steve grew tired of the slaughter, we moved to the east shore for some top-water trout action. While polling into the flat, I spotted school of sizable reds in deeper water, but before we could poll into position, a lagoonoramus in a johnboat blew across the school sounding them. For the next hour we quietly waited for their return, but again before we could get within casting range another boat buzzed the area. We finally staked out in the vicinity and chunked out ladyfish, and we ended the day with one break off, 15 hard heads, several sizable sea trout, and one nice 20-pound redfish. On a side note, remember that spotted sea trout are out of season in November and December, and you should have seen the look on the face of the unacquainted angler cleaning trout at the dock at Port Saint John, when the FWC Officer walked up and informed him of the regulations with a ticket. As always, if you have any questions or need information, please contact me. Good luck and good fishing, Captain Tom Van Horn www.irl-fishing.com 407-366-8085 office 407-416-1187 on the water 866-790-8081 toll free

Fishing Report 10/18/05 - Key West Update - 10/18/05
Hello again from The Saltwater Angler in beautiful Key West. There was a noticeable change in the weather this past week. We ve been seeing steady breezes out of the northeast all week long, with highs in the mid 80’s and lows around 77, which can mean only one thing WINTER is coming! As much as that pains me to say, we shouldn t be fishing for cuda s and sharks just yet. The baby tarpon fishing has taken a hit this week, but if you can find the fish, they’re still eating fairly well. With the north wind they really haven t been rolling, but they have remained in their usual spots. The reports of bonefish this week have been surprisingly decent with anglers catching them almost every day. This time of year you certainly won t see as many fish, but the ones on the flats are generally the larger fish. This is a good time to fish for tailers too because the shallow water is warmer where the fish are more likely to be. The permit is certainly the most tolerant to colder temps and the fishing for them has also been good but not excellent. As the water temps start to drop I like to concentrate fishing in the "lakes" just west of Key West because it seems more consistent at that time. The flats are really large out there and they seem to hold more stable water temps which fish like. You can also start looking for big schools of jacks which will hang on sharks and rays in that area. With some unsettled weather in the forecast pick your days wisely when venturing out this week. With the weather changing day to day and water and air temps dropping at the same rate, finding consistent water temps can be a struggle. One way to give yourself a better chance at finding good water temperature is to concentrate your fishing on the ocean side of the keys. The fish seem to migrate to these flats as the water temps drop. Whether you’re back east and trying to catch bonefish or down in Key West fishing for permit, the ocean side flats are definitely worth stopping by for a look. From all of us at The Saltwater Angler we wish you tight lines and fish boat side.

BASS vs the Federation
There is quite a battle going on right now between the Bass Anglers Sportsman Society and the Bass Chapter Federation. Will states and clubs stick with BASS or will they go with FLW. Here is a little history of this…

Fisheries minister challenges demand to cut haddock catch
ROSS Finnie, the fisheries minister, has challenged calls to cut haddock catches in the North Sea.

Fishing Report 11/17/05 - A + TOM AND JERRYS CHARTERS-FLORIDA-REPORT
Lake Cypress and Lake Toho in Kissimmee are the two hottest bass lakes in Florida. A multy boat trip yielded large numbers of bass with 2 fish over 10 pounds. Guides have been looking for the bigger fish to start showing on a regular basis after a long summer. Bass 10.5 and 10.7 will be a good start. Winter patterns using live bait has started. Trophy fish will start the spawn very soon by moving in to the old spawn grounds. Stickmarsh also produced large numbers of BASS and SPECKS this week. Running water is the only key to success so get thier early. The fishing can be worth the 6 mile dirt road going into the boat ramp. This is a real back to nature trip with all the wildlife birds and gators you can imagine. SALTWATER: Redfish and Tarpon still in the backcountry rivers at Port Canerval. Live mullet and shrimp are the best bait. Jacks and trout are in the flats in 10 to 18 inches of water. <br><br><img src=’http://www.fishingguidenetwork.com/reports/photos/121/83/fish019.jpg’>
